115 Organizations Urge Leadership/Judiciary to Clear Visa Backlogs through Budget Package
August 26, 2021
Nationwide - 115 organizations sent a letter to Madam Speaker, Majority Leader Schumer, Chair Nadler, Chair Lofren, Chair Durbin, and Chair Padilla, that states their support to include key
immigrant visa provisions to begin to clear the visa backlogs in the budget reconciliation.
“We are thrilled about the inclusion of a path to citizenship for undocumented youth, TPS holders, farmworkers, and essential workers in the budget reconciliation bill, and thank you for your support in getting us this far. We also believe that the opportunity to make important visa
reforms and increase immigration numbers should not be missed.” The 115 organizations are urging to clear the visa backlogs and assure thousands of immigrants that there will be a pathway to citizenship.
This letter highlights the importance of clearing the backlog and the problem that is happening with the limitation of visas and unprocessed visas. Over 3.7 million people are in line for family visas and about 900,000 people are currently stuck in the backlogs. These organizations are asking for a change and a step towards a more inclusive country that accepts immigrants and provides them the necessary paperwork to continue being part of this country.
“Our top immigration priority in the budget reconciliation package is to create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented youth, TPS holders, farmworkers, and essential workers. America is a diverse nation whose culture and economy have been shaped by immigration, creating the vibrant, tight-knit communities and economic prosperity that are distinctly American.”
